If you have never been deep sea fishing before then you do not know what you are missing out on, as it can be an experience of a life time, and it is a great way for families to get together and really connect. One of the problems with this is that many people do not hav ethe money to afford to buy a boat, one that is big enough and also one that has a big enough motor to make it out there in the deep sea to fish. No worries, we will get to other options on how you can get out there in the ocean and start catching some fish, but there are few things that you should know about before planning a deep sea fishing trip.
As I had mentioned this can be great for families, but age definitely plays an important role when it comes to deep sea fishing. You are more than likely going to be out more than 20 miles depending onwhat kind of fish it is that you are going after, so you should not even think about bring toddlers or infants aboard on a deep sea fishing trip. Another thing that you need to take into consideration is that if you have never fished before, then you might not want to start off deep sea fishing. This is not an absolute rule, but more as a warning. The fish that are out there in the ocean and miles off shore are big and they will put up a big fight, if you have never fished before you could end up loosing a rod or even worse wind up in the water.
Next thing, now that we got that out of the way, we are going to want to either find a professional captain, aka a fishing charter and pay them to take you out deep sea fishing and actually catch some fish, or you are going to fork up about hundred thousand dollars for a boat and motor along with fishing equipment, and try and fish knowing that you have no experience out in the deep sea. You should go with option one unless you have had many years of experience out in the open water, where many mishaps could occur for those that do not know what they are doing.
Deep sea fishing charter trips can go as low as half of a day, to a full day, there are even some fishing charters that are out there that will go out to sea for several days at a time, those can get a bit pricey though. Most captains of fishing charters will supply all of the bait and the fishing tackle that you will need, but you should bring a handful of items onboard yourself though, I will go over these items, and it is best to confirm all of this with the captain prior to boarding their fishing vessel.
You will want to bring your own food and drinks on board, although there are a few fishing charters that will supply these, but either way check with your fishing charter first, even about the bait and tackle. You will want to bring your own suncreen, and optionally a hat and a pair of sunglasses also. You are going to want to remember this deep sea fishing trip for the rest of your life so be sure that you take a camera with you too – you will be sorry if you didnt if you happen to catch a 6 foot tarpon that you had to fight on the hook for a couple of hours – trust me. That is really about all you will need on a deep sea fishing charter – IF – you have a captain that has been in the business and has a good reputation. If you are choosing to pay big bucks for a fishing trip, it is a nice sense of security knowing that your captain is good at the job they do, and you can be confident that you are going to catch some big fish.
